Performing on a Stradivari violin and pioneering the use of the modern Tourte bow, Libón combined the grace of the Classical style with a technical brilliance that anticipated Paganini.

El violinista Mario Pérez presenta en IBS Classical la primera grabación íntegra de los 30 Caprichos de Felipe Libón (1775–1838), una obra tan exigente como reveladora que constituye un hito en la historia del violín entre el Clasicismo y el Romanticismo. Este proyecto, grabado en el Auditorio Manuel de Falla y producido por Paco Moya, representa un brillante ejemplo de investigación artística aplicada a la interpretación: un diálogo entre pasado y presente que rescata del olvido a un virtuoso español de proyección europea.
Discípulo de Giovanni Battista Viotti, Libón fue un violinista gaditano formado en la escuela francesa que brilló en las cortes de Lisboa, Madrid y París. Admirado por su elegancia y precisión, utilizó un violín Stradivari y fue pionero en el uso del arco moderno de Tourte, cualidades que le situaron entre los grandes intérpretes de su tiempo. Sus Caprichos, dedicados a Viotti y publicados en 1818 por Ricordi, los Caprichos constituyen una auténtica suma del arte violinístico de su tiempo: treinta estudios que exploran todos los recursos del instrumento —dobles cuerdas, armónicos, fugas, contrastes dinámicos y lirismo cantabile— dentro de un lenguaje que combina rigor técnico, expresividad y belleza formal.
Con su interpretación rigurosa y sensible, Mario Pérez —ayuda de solista en la Orquesta Nacional de España y miembro del Trío Musicalis— logra revivir el espíritu de Libón desde la sonoridad profunda y luminosa de su violín Andrea Castagneri (1696–1747). Cada una de las treinta piezas explora un aspecto técnico o expresivo del instrumento, convirtiendo el conjunto en un verdadero tratado práctico de estilo y musicalidad.
El resultado es un disco de gran valor histórico y artístico que, en palabras de la musicóloga Sofía Martínez Villar, “no solo permite disfrutar de una interpretación excepcional, sino también redescubrir a un violinista del pasado a través de un violinista del presente”.

Published in 1818 by Ricordi, the 30 Caprices stand as a true summa of early nineteenth-century violin art: thirty studies that explore every facet of violin technique—double stops, harmonics, fugues, dynamic contrasts, and lyrical cantabile writing—within a style that combines technical precision, expressive warmth, and formal beauty.
With both intellectual rigor and musical sensitivity, Mario Pérez—Associate Principal in the Spanish National Orchestra and member of the Trío Musicalis—revives Libón’s forgotten masterpiece using his Andrea Castagneri (1696–1747) violin, whose rich and luminous tone connects the listener to the sound world of the early nineteenth century. Each of the thirty Caprices focuses on a distinct technical or expressive aspect, forming a complete and vivid compendium of violin technique and artistry.
As musicologist Dr. Sofía Martínez Villar notes in her liner essay, “This recording not only offers an exceptional interpretation but also allows us to rediscover a violinist of the past through a violinist of the present.”

Galardonado en “Padova Internation Competititon” (2011), “Cidade d’Alcobaça” (Portugal) o “Gaetano Zinnetti” de Verona (Italia); ha actuado como concertista junto a la Orquesta Nacional de España (junto a Gordan Nikolic), el grupo de viento, orquesta barroca y orquesta sinfónica del RCSMM, Infinitum Orchestra, interpretando las estaciones de Vivaldi. Como concertino ha colaborado con la Orquesta Sinfónica Verum, Mille e tré y Madrid Classic Ensemble. Ha ofrecido recitales por España, Europa (Alemania, Italia Francia, Rumanía…), tres giras por México etc…Ha llevado a cabo grabaciones bajo el sello discográfico Ibs Classical como Contrastes o Mosaicos y para Radio Nacional, grabando los octetos de Schubert, Mendelsshon y Berwald, septeto de Kreutzer, sextetos y cuartetos de Brahms, también ha grabado para Radio Nacional la Suite Carmen de Sarasate y ha llevado a cabo la grabación bajo el sello discográfico Verso del Concierto para violín de Rodolfo Halffter acompañado por la Orquesta Nacional de
España.
Investigador inquieto, concertista internacional, muy activo en la música de cámara, ha colaborado con Stephen Williamson (solista de la Chicago Symphony) interpretando los quintetos de Brahms y Weber en el Clarinet Fest 2017. Primer violín del Ensemble Lunair y su gran versatilidad hace que paralelamente desarrolle un trabajo internacionalmente reconocido en el ámbito de la nueva creación. El estreno de decenas de obras, muchas de ellas dedicadas a su propio grupo, el Trio Musicalis por compositores de diferentes nacionalidades, como Héctor Parra, José María Sánchez Verdú, Tomás Marco, Jesús Torres, José Luis Greco, Manuel Angulo, Alicia Díaz de la Fuente, Josep Planells, Ramón Paús, Cruz López Rego o María Eugenia Luc; el éxito de crítica y público en la interpretación le han llevado a realizar colaboraciones de compositores de primera línea mundial como Roderik de Man e intérpretes como Nobuko Imai (viola), Arno Bornkamp (saxofón) o Gordan Nikolic (violín).

Awarded prizes at the Padova International Competition (2011), Cidade d’Alcobaça (Portugal), and the Gaetano Zinnetti Competition in Verona (Italy), he has performed as a soloist with the Spanish National Orchestra (alongside Gordan Nikolić), as well as with the wind ensemble, Baroque orchestra, and symphony orchestra of the RCSMM, and with the Infinitum Orchestra, performing The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. As concertmaster, he has collaborated with the Verum Symphony Orchestra, Mille e Tré, and the Madrid Classic Ensemble. He has given recitals throughout Spain and across Europe (Germany, Italy, France, Romania…), as well as three tours in Mexico, among others.
He has made recordings for the IBS Classical label, including Contrastes and Mosaicos, and for Spanish National Radio (Radio Nacional de España), recording the octets by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Berwald, Kreutzer’s Septet, and Brahms’ sextets and quartets. He has also recorded Sarasate’s Carmen Suite for Spanish National Radio and, under the Verso label, Rodolfo Halffter’s Violin Concerto with the Spanish National Orchestra.
An inquisitive researcher and international soloist, highly active in the field of chamber music, he collaborated with Stephen Williamson (principal clarinet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) performing the Brahms and Weber quintets at ClarinetFest 2017. First violin of Ensemble Lunair, his remarkable versatility has also led him to develop an internationally recognized career in contemporary music. He has premiered dozens of works—many of them dedicated to his own group, Trio Musicalis—by composers of various nationalities such as Héctor Parra, José María Sánchez-Verdú, Tomás Marco, Jesús Torres, José Luis Greco, Manuel Angulo, Alicia Díaz de la Fuente, Josep Planells, Ramón Paús, Cruz López Rego, and María Eugenia Luc. The critical and public success of his performances has led to collaborations with leading international composers such as Roderik de Man and distinguished performers including Nobuko Imai (viola), Arno Bornkamp (saxophone), and Gordan Nikolić (violin).
