Spanish percussionist Noè Rodrigo is one of the most talented musicians of his generation. Having performed all over Europe and the US at most major concert halls and festivals, he has premiered more than 50 pieces by composers of over 20 nationalities. His interpretations of the percussion “classics” have been described by critics and audiences as highly virtuosic, technically impeccable and musically complex while featuring a large palette of colours. With PARAULES, (Words) Rodrigo brings to life seven works by essential composers of the XXth Century: Xenakis, Sciarrino, Mantovani, Denisov, Spanish music never before recorded (Torres and Vallejo) alongside more recent pieces (Borzelli). Seventy minutes where the young artist is able to show a stunning versatility, embracing every aesthetic with intelligence and accuracy, aiming for unique interpretations. If in the beginning music was a verb, like singing, shortly after it became percussion: initially, doubling the prosody of the voice; later, introducing a growing range of rhythms and colours that have made it the most heterogeneous, surprising and multicultural of all the instrumental families. In Sciarrino’s words (PARAULES): ‘a wooden percussion instrument can hardly sing, but at the same time I wonder if it cannot speak, shout, moan or murmur’.

Noè Rodrigo Gisbert

Noè Rodrigo Gisbert is a very versatile artist and, besides his career as a soloist, he collaborates with orchestras and ensembles around the world. His activities have brought him to perform all over Europe and  the United States.

He was born in Altea (Spain), where he started his musical education and completed his Percussion Master’s degree in Amsterdam.

He was awarded with the first prize in the Jeunesses Musicales of Spain Music Competition, the special price given by the European Music Competitions for Youth, and the Willem Vos Award in the TROMP Competition. He has offered recitals in halls such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, Usher Hall, Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven and festivals: Storioni Festival, Festival Internacional de Granada, Festival Internacional de Santander, Edinburgh International Festival, among others; and participated in concert series such as AiEnRUTa-Clásicos, Fundación Juan March and Jeunesses Musicales. Last August he performed as a soloist together with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Matthias Pintscher.

Noè is member of the Lucerne Festival Alumni Orchestra and collaborates with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Nederlands Kamerorkest, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa. During his studies he was a member of some of the best youth orchestras of Europe, such as EUYO (European Union Youth Orchestra), Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, JONDE (Spanish National Youth Orchestra), NJO (Netherlands Youth Orchestra), among others; and SOAP (Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific) in America (Canada).

Noè is founder member of Mbira-duo and #percu(fu)sión and collaborates with the Asko|Schönberg ensemble, Nieuw Amsterdams Peil, Slagwerk Den Haag, Insomnio Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, the New European Ensemble and Warwick Blair Ensemble.

His widely and different interests have brought him to perform with music theater companies such as Silbersee or the Lucerne Festival Young Performance. Noè has premiered percussion solos by Arnold Marinissen, Tomasz Arnold and Josh Henderson and worked with composers Steve Reich, James Wood, Wolfgang Rhim or Matthias Pintscher, a.o.

Among his upcoming engagements, we can highlight his appearances as a soloist with the Spanish Radio Orchestra, as well as with the Wind Orchestra of Barcelona and recitals in Spanish concert halls.

Noè is a very passionate educator and has given masterclass all over Spain and Europe. He has also been member of several juries for competitions, such as the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition 2018, held in Edinburgh.

From the Academic year 2018/2019, Noè is an associate professor at the Conservatory of Mallorca (Spain).
