Dans Grenade is a series of music for Ibs Classical, which is recorded in emblematic areas of Granada, with a repertoire related to Spanish music or to Spain, and more concretely, to Andalucía and the city of Granada.

Zapateado (Regino Sáinz de la Maza)

The recording has taken place in the Manuel de Falla Auditorium, in the setting of the Alhambra and Palace of Charles V, and only metres from the Carmen de la Antequeruela, the meeting place of cultural life in the times of the maestro, which today is still considered a cultural heritage centre of the city. Falla began his Granada phase with guitar composition, and the Homenaje pour le Tombeau de Claude Debussy (1920) is the first work he created in the city, thereupon initiating the best twenty years of his creative life, in a time that was bright with the presence and friendship of Federico García Lorca in el Concurso de Cante Jondo (1922), or in the commemorations of the tercentenary of the death of Góngora (1927). This Auditorium is one of the best medium-sized European acoustic concert halls in every nuance. The recording is done by taking advantage of the clarity and quality of different locations, conferring a lively, immediate sound that we feel as we sit in a chair at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium to enjoy the guitar of Sanja Plohl. This young Slovenian concert performer is characterized by overwhelming technique, precision in execution and variety in sound that make his interpretations of Dans Grenade an intense experience.
One of the most distinguished classical guitarists of the new generation, Slovenian-born Sanja Plohl has captured audiences with soulful interpretations and “an excellent technique, temperament, refinement and exceptional music maturity” (newspaper Vecer, 2009). Praised by the critics for her outstanding musical expression, Sanja’s long list of international awards includes first prizes at Córdoba Guitar Festival, Ivor Mairants Award (London), Seville International Guitar Competition, L’Arjau competition for all instruments (Barcelona), Festival Guitarmania (Lisbon), competitions “Ciudad de Llerena” (Extremadura) and “Comarca el Condado” (Jaén), as well as the audience awards at the “Miguel Llobet” (Barcelona) and “Luys Milan” (Valencia) competitions. Ms. Plohl’s schedule comprises recitals, chamber music projects, solo appearances with orchestras, masterclasses, as well as television and radio broadcasts. Her extensive repertoire covers music from the Renaissance to the present day and includes thematic recitals of Latin American, Spanish, Catalan, Andalusian and Jewish composers. She also collaborates with composers and has premiered numerous of their new works. Apart from performing, Sanja shares her knowledge and experience in masterclasses, lectures and didactic concerts. Sanja studied under the guidance of such renowned professors as Zoran Dukic, Thomas Offermann and Eliot Fisk. She also took masterclasses with other important personalities of the music world, such as Alvaro Pierri, Àlex Garrobé, Dusan Bogdanovic, Carlo Marchione and Ricardo Gallén, among others. Sanja earned her bachelor’s degree from The Rostock University of Music and Theatre, master’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and completed a postgraduate programme at University Mozarteum in Salzburg. Her studies were supported by the scholarships of the Slovenian Ministry for Culture, Dutch Government, Soroptimist International, Yehudi Menuhin’s Live music now Foundation, Zois fund, Accademia Chigiana and Música en Compostela.
