Canciones en La Alhambra
Mariola Cantarero – Rubén Fernández Aguirre
The heart of La Alhambra is filled with music. Entry to its palaces is astonishing, with the Patio de los Arrayanes, a magic space in which all our senses are enraptured by the rhythm of the arches, the stylised columns and the geometry of the decoration. In the great central pool, the guitar-shaped fountains succeed in extracting a huge variety of qualities and lights from the water while keeping at one the movement of the stream from the basin and the quiet of the mirror in the pool.
Canciones en La Alhambra contains one of those magic moments when the Nasrid courtyard enveloped masterly performers, to fill the heart of La Alhambra with music. Mariola Cantarero was born in Granada and is one of the most representative sopranos in the Spanish and international panorama who, in these songs, demonstrates the beauty of her vocal timbre, her capacity to project it to the public, her refined expressivity and her stage presence. From the vocalisations to her approach to Spanish song, always with passion, talent and admiration. Pianist Rubén Fernández Aguirre converted accompaniment into great art, giving the music a style, expression and sonorous richness revealing all its content. Both artists unleashed a repertoire where voice, rhythms, sounds and the words of the songs reminded us again and again that we were in Granada, in la Alhambra.
